Established in 1998, the AXONE saxophone quartet unites four young musicians with a passion for contemporary music. All four have studied the saxophone with Claude Delangle at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM) in Paris. At CNSM they had the opportunity to study chamber music, with none other then David Walter, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Lazlo Hadady and Michel Moraguès. As a result Axone was awarded the highest accolade, the“premier prix à l’unanimité de musique de chambre”.

In September 2003, AXONE was accepted unanimously in the “cycle de perfectionnement” of the CNSM in Paris. The “cycle de perfectionnement” is the pinnacle of music studies in France. This achievement allows AXONE to work with composers and professors associated with the CNSM.

AXONE performed in 2001 at the “journées internationales de la composition” organised by the CNSM in Paris. The concert hall “Cité de la Musique” in Paris invited AXONE for her concert series “carte blanche” in 2002. From 1998 untill 2001 AXONE was exclusively associated to the concert series “zuiderlicht” in the concert hall “Muziekcentrum Frits Philips” in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The AXONE saxophone quartet also performed at various competitions and music festivals. For instance AXONE won the second prize in the European competiton "Musiques d'Ensemble" in 2002, the first prize in the french chamber music competition "Forum Musical de Normandie" in 2004 and the first prize in the dutch chamber music competition in Almere in 2005. Among the chamber music festivals, AXONE performed at the “Music Festival of Dinard-Côte d’Emeraude”, at the "Festival Europeen Jeunes Talents" in Paris, at the "Festival du Comminges"...

AXONE performs with great enthusiasm any original music for saxophone quartet or adaptations of classical music. The essence of AXONE is to perform works written especially for AXONE by young composers, such as Juraj Valcuha, Sébastien Béranger, Julien Dassié and Sylvain Griotto.

Martijne JANSSEN Van DIJK

Martijne van Dijk obtained her diploma 'docerend musicus' in 1997 and her diploma 'uitvoerend musicus' in 1999 at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg, where she studied with Jean Pennings. She continued her studies at the Conservatoire National de Région in Lyon with Jean-Denis Michat and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Claude Delangle. In 1999 Martijne won the 'solistenprijs' of the Brabant Orchestra. This gave her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the orchestra. In the same year she was selected to participate in the series 'zuiderlicht' of the 'muziekcentrum Frits Philips' in Eindhoven. This enabled her to perform regularly in the 'muziekcentrum' and to record a cd. Currently Martijne performs with the saxophonequartet AXONE, as the narrator in the famous story of Babar by Francis Poulenc and she combines music with theatre in The Skomorovsky Orchestra.
